Muscular Endurance: What’s the Difference Discover the science behind what makes muscular strength different from muscular endurance.Help your child vary the routine to prevent boredom. Make sure your child rests at least one full day between exercising each specific muscle group. In a triathlon this is useful during a short sprint to pass a. What does this mean Put simply, the longer your muscles need to work against resistance, the better your strength endurance will be. Adult supervision by someone who knows proper strength training technique is important. The first benefit of strength training is muscular power, or the ability to produce force quickly. Your child can gradually increase the resistance or number of repetitions as he or she gets older. Form and technique are more important than the amount of weight your child lifts. Resistance tubing and body-weight exercises, such as pushups, are other effective options. To gain muscle, strength or endurance in any exercise program, it’s important to challenge yourself by building variety into your routinesand gradually increasing the intensity, weight or. Resistance doesn't have to come from weights. In most cases, one or two sets of 12 to 15 repetitions are enough. Kids can safely lift adult-size weights, as long as the weight is light enough. Gentle stretching after each session is a good idea, too. This warms the muscles and prepares them for more-vigorous activity. Encourage your child to begin each strength training session with five to 10 minutes of light aerobic activity, such as walking, jogging in place or jumping rope. Or enroll your child in a strength training class designed for kids. The coach or trainer can create a safe, effective strength training program based on your child's age, size, skills and sports interests. Start with a coach or personal trainer who has experience with youth strength training. A child's strength training program isn't necessarily a scaled-down version of what an adult would do.

The dispersion D of the grating is defined as: “The angular separation Δθ per unit wavelength Δλ is called the dispersion D of the grating.” D = Δθ/Δλ For lines of nearly equal wavelengths to appear as widely as possible,we would like our grating to have the largest possible dispersion. The separation Δθ between the spectral lines that differ in wavelength by small amount Δλ.The ability of a grating to produce spectra that permit precise measurement of wavelengths is determined by two intrinsic properties of grating. Grating element ‘d’ is calculated as: Grating element =Length of grating/Number of linesĭispersion and resolving power Dispersion Grating element definitionĭistance between two consecutive slits (lines) of the grating is called a grating element. Because the principal maxima are so sharp, they are very much brighter than double-slit interference maxima. This is in contrast to the broad bright fringes characteristic of the double-slit interference pattern. Note the sharpness of the principal maxima and the broadness of the dark areas. The intensity distribution for a diffraction grating obtained with the use of a monochromatic source. All wavelengths are seen at θ =0, corresponding to m=0, the zeroth-order maximum (m=1) is observed at the angle that satisfies the relationship sin θ =λ/d: the second-order maximum (m=2) is observed at a larger angle θ, and so on. If the incident radiation contains several wavelengths, the mth-order maximum for each wavelength occurs at a specific angle. Therefore, the condition for maxima in the interference pattern at the angle θ is.ĭ sin θ =mλ Where m=0,1,2,3,4… We can use this expression to calculate the wavelength if we know the grating spacing and the angle 0. If this path difference is equal to one wavelength or some integral multiple of a wavelength, then waves from all slits are in phase at point P and a bright fringe is observed. From the figure, we note that the path difference’ δ ‘ between rays from any two adjacent slits is equal to d sin θ. However, for some arbitrary direction θ measured from the horizontal, the waves must travel different path lengths before reaching point p. The waves from all slits are in phase as they leave the slits. Each slit is produced diffraction, and the diffracted beams interfere with one another to produce the final pattern. The pattern observed on the screen is the result of the combined effects of interference and diffraction. A converging lens brings the rays together at point P. A plane wave is an incident from the left, normal to the plane of the grating. A section of a diffraction grating is illustrated in the figure. For example, a grating ruled with 5000 lines/cm has a slit spacing d=1/5000 cm=2.00×10 -4 cm. Gratings that have many lines very close to each other can have very small slit spacing. A reflection grating can be made by cutting parallel lines on the surface of refractive material. The space between the lines is transparent to the light and hence acts as separate slits. A transmission grating can be made by cutting parallel lines on a glass plate with a precision ruling machine. The space between lines acts as slits and these slits diffract the light waves thereby producing a large number of beams that interfere in such a way to produce spectra. It consists of a large number of equally spaced parallel slits.” Its working principle is based on the phenomenon of diffraction. “The diffraction grating is a useful device for analyzing light sources. 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 822 ratings | 202 answered questions. However, with the new season kicking off, fans seem concerned about the inclusion of Chumlee, who according to rumours on the internet, might have been fired.Ĭhumlee initially appeared in the show back in the first season as an extra, often showing his face working part-time and behind the scenes of the shop. Now, it has returned for a seventeenth season, which according to Rick’s Instagram account, will feature the cast travelling the world in search of valuable and rare artifacts to sell in their world-famous pawn shop. ‘Pawn Stars’ debuted in 2009, and since rising to astounding popularity, has completed a total of sixteen seasons during its long, twelve-year run on television. Several of the regular consultants on the show have gained their own series, who include Rick Dale from ‘American Restoration’, and Danny Koker from ‘Counting Cars’. The major cast includes the leading Harrison boys, father and son, Rick and Corey, as well as Corey’s best friend, Austin ‘Chumlee’ Russel. The shop was originally founded in 1989 by the family patriarch, Richard Harrison, known on the show as ‘Old Man’, but since his unfortunate passing, Richard’s son, Rick, and his grandson, Corey, have taken over the shop.Īside from the normal features of the show, some focus also falls on the personal relationships, and at times their conflicts, of the ‘Gold and Silver Pawn Shop’s staff, providing entertainment for some of the audience members who have less of an interest in the daily activities of a pawnbroker. Produced by Leftfield pictures, ‘Pawn Stars’ follows the daily activities of the Las Vegas thrift shop, World Famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, and its employees as they barter and appraise the many odd items carried or dragged into the store.Īs per usual, the narrator of any given episode accounts the history of each item, giving the audience all the available information of the artifacts the shop might buy up. Regardless, ‘Pawn Stars’ is one of the most successful reality shows on television, becoming the most popular show aired on the History channel, and the second most-watched reality show in general.Ī post shared by Pawn Stars falls only slightly behind the popularity of ‘Jersey Shore’ but seems equally as entertaining. How did these items end up in the store, and what significance did it have for the owner? If questions like these intrigue you, then by chance, you are most likely a dedicated fan of ‘Pawn Stars’, or would be once you tune in for an episode. Walking through the aisles of a second-hand store, one can perhaps not help but wonder what kind of stories make up the history of certain items. ‘Pawn Stars’ is an American reality television series, aimed at satisfying the universal need for audiences hoping to sate their curiosity about pawn shops and thrift stores all over the world. The inequities of clinical triage frameworks We propose that the disability critique of clinical guidance documents for triage directs us towards a richer conceptualization of justice beyond the utilitarian maximization of welfare, and towards justice as positive freedoms. Informed by a disability rights lens, we seek to (1) critically examine clinical triage frameworks and elucidate how they may highlight existing inequities (2) propose ways in which these frameworks could be modified to fulfill obligations of justice and (3) translate these principles beyond the COVID-19 context into decision-making within the arenas of medicine and public health more broadly. Clinical triage protocols highlight the systemic deprioritization of individuals with disabilities at the point of triage. For instance, likelihood of survival is used to support withholding care from those with a greater than 80% predicted mortality, which aggregates mortality from severe illness with confounders such as baseline cognitive impairment, neurodegenerative disease, or functional capacity. These protocols highlight and potentially compound the disproportionate impact of acute health-system stressors on the lives of individuals who are already marginalized. Current approaches to design clinical decision-making protocols prompted by the COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 pandemic have been criticized as being discriminatory towards individuals of advanced age, or those with complex needs or medical comorbidities. The decisions made during triage are of great consequence. The current global pandemic has been one such moment of resource strain requiring the development of these protocols. “Clinical Triage Protocols” are documents which serve to guide administrators and clinicians making decisions to partition and allocate care in such times of scarcity. Global emergencies require health care systems to shift into alternative operational states, modified to meet novel demands and overcome new constraints on resources. The clinical pandemic response, codified across triage protocols, should embrace a form of justice which incorporates a vision of pluralistic human capabilities and a valuing of positive freedoms. Informed by a disability rights critique of the clinical response to the pandemic, we offer direction for the construction of future clinical triage protocols which will avoid ableist biases by incorporating a broader apprehension of what it means to be human. We propose the capabilities theory, which recognizes that justice requires a range of positive capabilities/freedoms conducive to the achievement of meaningful life goals, as a means to do so. Here, we posit that engagement with the disability critique demands that we broaden our understandings of justice and fairness in clinical decision-making and patient triage. This utilitarian view necessarily marginalizes certain groups, in particular individuals with increased medical needs. While these documents differ in scope, they share a utilitarian focus on the maximization of benefit. The expectation of pandemic-induced severe resource shortages has prompted authorities to draft and update frameworks to guide clinical decision-making and patient triage. It is great if you like quick and tense matches, with lots of competition. This is a fast-paced soccer game with cars. One of the great things is that there it is turn-based without a time limit – meaning you have all the time in the world to talk and catch up while someone else is planning their moves. The multiplayer variant Don’t Starve Together pits you and your friends against a harsh world, where you can choose to survive together or each go your own way. – A game aptly named for many people’s first challenge when going to college. I have highlighted some of my personal favorites, but of course there is no accounting for taste.ĭid we miss your favorite online game? Feel free to share in the comments below!ĭon’t Starve. The list below is a compilation of games that we think are especially engaging for friends to play together online, in alphabetical order. When discussing this topic here at the GEMH lab, dozens of examples were shared in the group. There are innumerable games that offer a fun and quick social activity for friends, without traveling halfway across the country. Based on the popularity of online video games, I am surely not alone in this. However, through a shared activity such as gaming, I stayed connected with friends all across the country. I was never one to directly call people, or poke them on social media to ‘just talk’. When I went to college, one of the main ways to stay in touch with my friends was through online video games. Luckily, just because you can’t hang out anymore does not mean that friendships are over. And as Maaike wrote in a previous blog post, loneliness in students is actually quite high. Even though college life is full of social opportunities, there will surely be times when you miss your old pals. As exciting as it is to ‘leave the nest’, it also means that it becomes harder to meet up with friends and family that have been with you for years. Many people go their separate ways as they move to different towns for college. 2-4 players required. One of the biggest transitions in life is the moment when you finish high school and spread your wings in the big world. Wouldn’t a swarm of any human-eating animal or insect be scary? The swarm theory is intellectually lazy. They too, are quickly slaughtered, although taking thousands of geese out with them. Skirmishes continue until morning, but it is all too late as the SAS arrive. They are using it as a staging zone for more landings and a full invasion of the UK. By nightfall, the British army has lost 80% of Bristol, and more geese are migrating from the long abandoned continent of the Americas. AA guns are ineffective, and they are soon landing and attacking the people of the city in full force. They watch as overhead, countless geese fly in formation into the city. One guy replied quite practically, “Do you mean as that goat thing from Hercules (a 1997 Disney animation)? Or just as himself?” But, nah, the other Reddit dude responds, “Just him, as himself, rabid and gnarly, hunting you down.” 1. Here's an example of how lethal "stick" can be: Freshly chewed chewing gum is similar, or marshmallow fluff that you can’t get off your hands.” “It’s like a piece of silly putty when you touch it, you can’t tell if it’s a solid or a fluid,” Hu says. This answer was inspired by someone’s dream: “I had this dream where a dog-sized frog jumped out of a pool, stuck to someone, knocked them over and suffocated them.”ĭavid Hu, in a recent interview with The Atlantic, described a frog’s tongue and its stickiness. “(They would be) just swarms pecking away at you like annoying little air-piranhas but ya know.likely deadly.” 3. I think the fear here is also one rooted in sheer numbers. The ship’s captain was said to be so overconfident he sped along his route, dismissive of icebergs and the possibility of crashing into one. So maybe our undoing at the hands of carnivorous rabbits would be similar to the failing that brought down the Titanic. Still, another user suggested that rabbits would be a legit threat because of strength in numbers, “our overconfidence will be our undoing as their superior numbers overwhelm us.” "You can shoot a lot of arrows and not take a lot of meat home," said Mark Zornes of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Zornes calls it losing arrows in the sage brush. Some people call the activity bowhunting for cottontail rabbits. Here’s an excerpt from a Grand View Outdoors post about rabbit hunting: One guy posted, “Rabbits are insanely easy to kill though.” I know a lot of rabbit hunters who would disagree. Once you are in the mouth as you are chewed up and swallowed hundreds of smaller rabbits take tiny little bites of you.”īut, inevitably, rabbits are a tough sell due to their size. Here are my unscientific, completely subjective top six worst answers, going from “just OK” to “Boom! Reddit needs life support.” I would have chosen the top six best answers, but there were none. Ants are insects, not animals, but let’s not worry ourselves with details. For instance, the first person to reply offers ants as the answer. Keep in mind there are no rules, people aren’t always motivated to stick to the actual questions. But Reddit’s answers to the question are so obtuse they're both amusing and alarming. The question is trivial in the sort of way that gets social media buzzing. What animal would become truly terrifying if it became carnivorous and started hunting people for food? Some, however, are frighteningly dimwitted. It’s unlikely you will learn anything, but you will find that regular people - out there living their regular little lives like the rest of us - can be pretty funny. Even a slight reduction in big-ticket loans such as home loan, loan against property, etc., can save you a lot of money in the long run.Ģ. This can further help in paying off loans faster and reduces a significant amount of financial burden. Everyone aims to maintain good credit so that loans can be availed at low-interest rates. This is a major benefit when it comes to having a good credit score. Here, we have listed some of the major benefits of a good credit score:ġ. Making timely repayments of loans and credit card bills can fetch you a good credit score. Your current credit report and the way you have managed your credit obligations to date will affect how a particular action may impact your score. What are the Benefits of a Good Credit Score? Reducing the amount of credit, you have may be good for your credit score – but again this is only one factor taken into consideration. The more credit you have, the more it will affect (and probably reduce) your credit score – but this could be offset by good repayment behaviour. The total amount of credit you have is one factor affecting your credit score. If you close a credit card or pay off a personal loan will that automatically improve your score? When you apply for a credit card, lenders wants to know how you've handled your existing debt, the number of accounts you have open, whether you've made your account payments on time, if you have defaults listed against you for non-payment by other lenders, and the total amount of credit you have access to across your credit accounts and loans. One application for a credit card is not likely to hurt your score but if you've applied for several other cards recently, it could make an impact as numerous applications can be perceived as desperation for credit or it could indicate to lenders that you're taking on too many accounts in a short period of time, a move that could make it difficult to afford all your new monthly payments. Making multiple applications in a short period of time can negatively impact your credit score. Your credit report shows a 5-year enquiry history, which is factored into your credit score. When you apply for a credit card or loan, an enquiry is recorded on your credit report. Does opening a credit card hurt your credit score? So, as the information on your credit report changes, your credit score can also change. But it's important to note that each time your score is calculated it's taking into consideration the information that is on your credit report at that time. In general, your credit score won’t change that much over time if your use of credit doesn’t change. And newer information tends to have more of an impact than much older information. Information that's added or deleted can affect your credit score. It's only when the credit reporting body has the updated information that it will impact your credit score. While they are mostly updated frequently, there is sometimes a lag between when you perform an action and when it is reported by the lender to the credit reporting body they subscribe to. How often does your credit score change?Ĭhanges to your credit score depend entirely on how often your credit report is updated. So, not all credit reporting bodies have the exact same information, it all depends on which credit reporting body your lender shares your credit reporting information with. Lenders subscribe to one or more of the credit reporting bodies, sharing their customers’ comprehensive credit reporting information for inclusion in your credit report. if you apply for and/or take on more debt, default on your account or if your repayment behaviour changes by skipping your monthly account payments. Your credit score will change over time as your credit behaviour changes e.g. If you have been making repayments on your existing accounts on time, this is factored into your score and it will impact your credit score positively. The way in which you manage your repayments on your credit and loan accounts is one of the top factors in most credit scoring models. The sooner you establish a reliable repayment history, the better – so if you plan to apply for a mortgage in the next few years, or take out a major loan, you should manage your credit health now by ensuring there are no negative information such as a default listed against you for not making your debt obligations and by ensuring that you pay your bills on time. If your credit report shows scores out of 1,000, above 690 is excellent and above 540 is good. If your credit report shows scores out of 1,200 then as a rule of thumb a score above 853 is excellent while above 661 is good. Different credit scoring agencies calculate your credit score slightly differently.
